Lucy Watson has slammed the Grand National, after three horses died at this year's races. The former Made in Chelsea star, 32, shared a screenshot of a news story reporting on the horse deaths to her Instagram Story, adding: "a 'sport' that involves the death of innocent animals is not one I will ever support, this doesn't need to happen.

RIP [broken heart emoji]." Following the news of the horses's deaths, the RSPCA "urgently" called on the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) to review the circumstances of each of the deaths “so that we never again exit a ‘festival of racing’ with three dead horses”.

It comes after this year's Grand National was met with protests from animal welfare activist group Animal Rising, who have argued that “horrific, heartbreaking deaths” are the “inevitable consequence of exploiting these animals for entertainment – and it has to stop”.

Other animal welfare groups, including PETA UK, have spoken out against the Grand National race, which is famous for being one of the longest and most hazardous horse races in the world. The three deaths at this year's event may be unsurprising to many animal rights activists given that 62 horses have died at the Aintree Festival since 2000, with 16 of those killed during the Grand National.
