responded to the scene near Junction 23 for Haydock at around 11am today.The collision caused the motorway to be closed for around seven hours with many drivers stranded.The northbound carriageway reopened earlier in the afternoon and the southbound shortly after 6pm.In a statement, Merseyside Police said the collision involved a Mitsubishi Shogun and two lorries.An air ambulance landed at the scene but a 62-year-old man, the driver of the Mitsubishi, sadly died from his injuries.Police said the drivers of both lorries stayed at the scene and assisted officers with their inquiries.An investigation is underway.Merseyside Police said: "The man's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this.
