Marks and Spencer has apologised after an outtake from its Christmas advert caused upset. The image, showing paper hats in the colours of the Palestinian flag burning in a fire, was meant to "playfully show that some people don't enjoy wearing paper Christmas hats", according to M&S.
The picture was shared on social media with the caption: "This Christmas, do what you love... like saying no to paper hats" and "#LoveThismasNotThatmas." However, some people saw a resemblance between the colours of the hats and the Palestinian flag, leading to criticism.
One person responded to the post, saying: "This is absolutely vile, you should be ashamed of yourselves." Another added: "Absolutely disgusting.
