Loved ones gather to celebrate 100th birthday of Lanarkshire 'Supergran'

A much-loved Lanarkshire woman celebrated her 100th birthday last week with her family. Uddingston resident Susan McAleer is known as 'Supergran' to her nearest and dearest and she was there making sure everyone was having a good time on her special day.

The centenarian was full of cheer as she gathered with family for the big day. And also visiting was South Lanarkshire’s Provost Councillor Margaret Cooper, who presented Susan with a card, flowers and a scroll.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

She worked as a machinist in a clothing factory and, in 1949, she married her husband James.In any spare time that she managed to have, her greatest hobby was dancing, while she also loved the cinema, going to watch a film twice a week for many years.Susan was sadly widowed early and she moved to Uddingston to be close to her children, Catherine and William.She was joined on her 100th birthday by her grandchildren Lauren and Paul and her great-grandchildren: Orla, Caoimhe, Marcella, Saoirse and Rebecca.Wishing Susan many happy return was Deputy Lord Lieutenant Mary Hernon, who passed on a certificate to mark the wonderful achievement.After visiting on the day, Provost Cooper said: “For anyone to reach one hundred years of age is a remarkable thing in
