Zara McDermott is set to make history as the first ever Love Island star to take part in Strictly Come Dancing. The 26 year old is the seventh celebrity contestant confirmed for the brand new series, which will air on BBC One in the autumn.
Zara said: “I am so excited to be joining the world of Strictly! I grew up watching it every year with my nan and she was the biggest Strictly fan. "We would dance around the house and I have such fond memories of that time in my life. "I even remember the first ever series, and being mesmerised by all the beautiful dresses!
I can’t wait to throw myself into this experience and start training. It’s going to be incredible.” Zara's proud boyfriend, Made in Chelsea star and Love Island: Aftersun co-presenter Sam Thompson wasn't afraid to show his support for her on Instagram.
Taking to his stories, Sam shared a video of himself listening to Zara make her Strictly announcement during a radio appearance, as he threw his hands up in the air in glee.
