ITV has defended Love Island host Laura Whitmore after the broadcaster received more than 400 complaints after comments she made during an episode of Aftersun.

According to Ofcom, the hit reality show has recorded more than 3,000 complaints in just the last week. Of those 3,000 complaints, 427 were in reference to comments made about Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, 27, and an interview with Jacques O'Neill, 23, who was making his first TV appearance since quitting the show.

During Sunday's instalment of the after show, Laura, 37, quizzed her fellow panellists about what they thought might have happened between the Turkish soap star and Casa Amor boy George Tasker.

She began: "Once again Ekin-Su swore that nothing happened with George and it seems Davide doesn’t believe her." Singer and panellist Tom Grennan added his thoughts, saying: "It deffo happened though, didn’t it." Comedian Darren Harriott said: "She said her head never turned but I think her hand might have turned, and possibly wrist." Laura continued to press her guests on the incident, turning to Capital FM DJ Sian Welby, to find out her thoughts on the incident.
