Islander Gemma Owen has told OK! she’s “so happy” with boyfriend Luca Bish, but their relationship is very much a long distance one.

Chatting to us exclusively last week, the 19-year-old revealed that the couple, who were runners-up on Love Island, have no plans to live near each other.

Gemma is with her family in Cheshire and Luca is in Brighton, but she says they are “kind of just making it work for us”. “We’re living separately, but it’s fine,” she explained. “Whenever we’re free, he’ll either come up to Cheshire or I’ll go down to Brighton.” She added: “If we’re both busy in London, we’ll always find time [to see each other].

But at the moment I’m still in Cheshire because I’ve got everything there.” During a chat with Gemma at the launch of her new range with PrettyLittleThing, the star opened up about Luca’s lavish proposal where he asked her to be his girlfriend. “We obviously decided to wait a little longer than other couples to make it official,” she said. “I think he felt, not exactly pressure, but I think he felt everyone’s eyes were on him. “He felt people were waiting for him to do something big – as if he almost owed everyone something at least.” After asking Gemma the big question, Luca presented her with a Cartier bracelet and red roses. “Yeah, it was amazing,” she said. “I definitely wasn’t expecting him to do any of that, but I was so happy.” And it seems that Luca, 23, is a huge hit with Gemma’s family, including her former England footballer dad Michael, as she revealed their first meeting in Portugal over the summer “couldn’t have gone better”. “It was so nice,” she said.
