In 2021, a Toronto-based producer called Loukeman self-released Sd-1, his debut album. The project had an introspective sound that balanced between raw demo and polished composition as it breezed through fields of folktronica and dreamy house.
It took off in the underground, and in the three years since, Loukeman has built a dedicated cult fanbase that includes Vegyn, who has invited him to perform at a few shows (I caught a Loukeman DJ set in Toronto a few months back, and people were going nuts).
Today, Loukeman has shared Sd-1’s anticipated follow-up, Sd-2. Featuring three previously released singles — the twangy meditation “Baby You’re A Star,” the hazy neon raver “Take,” and a haunting, Burial-reminiscent number called “Braveheart” — the new album retains the joyful restlessness of Loukeman’s first.
