London shooting leaves one man dead and two injured as cops launch probe

One man has died and two people have been left injured following a shooting in a residential area. Police raced to reports of gunshots being fired in the area of Wells Park Road, Sydenham, in London today at around 10.10am.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene with gunshot injuries. Two other people were found injured - a woman with gunshot wounds to her legs and another person who was also believed to have gunshot injuries, reports the Mirror.The unnamed woman has been taken to hospital, where her injuries are described as serious but not life threatening.

The other person's condition is unknown at this time. The Metropolitan Police has appealed for information as it condemned the "senseless act of violence".

No arrests have been made yet as police attempt to establish the victim's identity and contact his family.Commander Peter Stevens issued a statement confirming an increase in officer activity in the area as investigations are ongoing.
