Lochmaben-based Russell Roof Tiles has spread festive cheer by donating £37,000 to five charities. Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre, Dumfries Veterans Garden, The First Base Agency, Moffat Mountain Rescue and Castle Loch Lochmaben Community Trust each received £7,400.

They were invited by managing director, Andrew Hayward, to the Heallheaths site last week with the amounts for their worthy causes kept as a huge surprise beforehand.

All of the charities – chosen by the workforce – help either the homeless, mental and physical wellbeing or animal welfare. Mr Hayward said: “It was an honour to present to our five chosen charities and I’m proud to be able to support those organisations so they can continue the vital work they do for our community. “It’s been a record-breaking year of fundraising for us and despite the cost-of-living challenges, we’ve managed to double the target we set back in January. “I couldn’t have done it without the team who have put in the work and volunteered their time and money to be involved.” During the past year, the Lochmaben team has taken part in some gruelling and inspiring challenges for the company’s Give4Good initiative, with the most daunting being the 10,000ft tandem skydive which was taken on by seven workers who raised £7,000.

At the start of 2023, the company set its sights on raising £40,000 for its scheme, which aims to support 12 charities – five close to the Lochmaben site, five in Burton on Trent where it also has a factory, plus two international charities.
