Livingston v Broxburn: David Martindale looks forward to 'giving something back to local community' with friendly clash

Livingston boss David Martindale is looking forward to going up against old pal Stevie Pittman in a pre-season friendly with Broxburn Athletic next week – and says it is good to give back to a community club that supported him in the past.The two sides will meet on Tuesday at Almondvale as they prepare for campaigns in the Scottish Championship and Scottish Lowland League, respectively.Martindale was assistant to Brox boss Pittman when he spent time at the club back in 2010 and Pittman’s son Scott also plays for the Lions as a midfielder.And the Lions gaffer said: “Pitts and I have been friends for years.

He gave me my first opportunity with Pumpherston and brought me into Broxburn for a bit so I have a lot of time for him. I also think it is important that you try and support the local community as much as possible.“It is the kind of relationship you want to foster with teams around the area.

We’ve got Broxburn, Linlithgow and Bo’ness all playing in the Lowland League with the chance to progress into the SPFL system, so we always try to give teams in the local community a game to help them out and give something back.“Broxburn have managed to get themselves into the pyramid system in the Lowland League, so it is nice to give them a wee turn and give ourselves a turn by getting boys some game time.

It will give the local Broxburn and Livingston fans a wee derby to get pre-season going. I’m looking forward to it.”Broxburn won the East of Scotland League title last season and earned promotion to the fifth tier after thrashing Dalbeattie Star 12-2 on aggregate in the Lowland League play-off final.The Broxburn game will kick off at 7.45pm and Pittman said: “The players will love it up at their stadium so it will be good for
