James Penrice has revealed he chose putting in the hard yards over a holiday during the winter break because he's determined to regain his form. The 23-year-old was one of the Lions' most consistent performers last season but a niggling injury caused havoc physically and mentally at the start of this campaign - which led to a heart-to-heart with boss David Martindale. That sparked a change in the local lad and he's keen to prove that on the pitch, starting with the visit of Dundee United today. He said: "We had nine days off.
I was tempted to go away somewhere warm but I decided to stay at home and go to the gym and make sure I was ready to hit the ground running.“I wasn’t playing a lot before the break and that’s something I want to change to get myself in the team.“In the first half of the season I had a few injuries, so I couldn’t go and sit on a beach and give in.
I want to play and I want to be an important name on the team sheet.“In the summer I wanted to take my game to another level.
I had a couple of operations and I hoped I would be good to go. We went to Spain and I injured my thigh and it was a nightmare for me, both physically and mentally."He added: "I played in two of the Premier Sports Cup games and against Inverness I went down about four times in the second-half and I didn’t play for a while.“I was gone and I was all over the place as I was so frustrated.
