Marko Grujic now looks likely to remain at Liverpool at least until January, after a deal to take him to Germany fell through.
Werder Bremen were hoping to take the Serb on loan, but Liverpool had insisted on a transfer, valued at £20m in total. Despite selling Davy Klaassen to Ajax, the Bundesliga club do not possess the finances to do a deal at that price.
Grujic spoke to Werder head coach Florian Kohfeldt, but the deal collapsed late on Monday afternoon, and sources at Anfield have suggested the midfielder is now set to stay at Liverpool and move in January.
The 24-year-old was Jurgen Klopp's first signing as Liverpool manager back in January 2016, when he joined from Red Star Belgrade for around £5.1million.
