Secondary school pupils in Liverpool will be offered a Covid-19 test as part of a "ground-breaking" pilot scheme being rolled out in the city.

Parents will be receiving letters with an offer to get their children tested on site as part of efforts to prevent the spread of the virus.

Students aged from 11 to 18 will be eligible for the test upon condition recorded consent is provided, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Town Hall bosses hopes such extension will come into effect from Tuesday. It comes just 24 hours after a mass testing scheme was rolled out in Liverpool involving the set up of testing centres which provide results within an hour.
