Liverpool icon reveals Steven Gerrard fear over Celtic goal but not everyone is buying it

Former Liverpool star John Aldridge admits he was unsure hyped–up Steven Gerrard would find the net against Celtic in Saturday's charity clash.The former Rangers boss was pelted with missiles after revelling in his spot-kick at Anfield on a day when old acquaintances reunited.

The Reds icon enjoyed plenty back and forth with the travelling supporters but the objects thrown onto the pitch were condemned by those in attendance plus onlookers across the globe.And Aldridge admits Gerrard's desire to find the net against Celtic could have been a disadvantage as he was aiming to slot past the helpless Artur Boruc.

Speaking on Liverpool TV, he said: "It was hard for Stevie to concentrate. He had so much stick off the Celtic fans, I actually thought he might miss it.Ian Rush didn't go along with that and was convinced the Liverpool icon would make the difference in front of what the Reds goal machine described as "the Celtic end."Gerrard could barely hide his delight after netting against Celtic and admitted he had no issue dishing it back out.

He said: "There was only one taker from there and that's me, in front of the Celtic fans. A little bit of pressure, I waited for (Artur Boruc) to go, and you have to milk it.
