The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” had a laugh on Twitter when a goofy promotional video for the new series was confused for the series’ opening sequence.“Apparently this is the intro for the new LOTR show… this is what $750 million buys you,” a Twitter user wrote alongside the clip on Wednesday, mocking the series’ enormous price tag.That video — which now has 4.1 million views, more than 20,700 likes and 10,000 quote tweets — features the “Rings” cast gazing into the camera as well as making bizarre, comical movements. “Half of the actors look like someone snuck up on them in between takes while they were having a conversation or eating a sandwich,” one Twitter user said. However, in a sea of jokes about the video, many users pointed out that Entertainment Weekly’s watermark is in the corner of the video, meaning it’s obviously not the series’ opening credits.

“Rings of Power” star Owain Arthur carried around a “newborn baby” while filming the new Amazon Prime Video series — in the form of a beard.In order to play Prince Durin IV in the show that debuted Thursday, he went through the wringer in the makeup chair and it didn’t stop there.The Welsh actor, 39, said the bushy, braided beard he wore all day on set weighed several pounds and came in 16 separate pieces.“[It was] attached to my face so it would move but not pull,” Arthur told Variety, adding the beard “weighs as much as a newborn baby.”“[The] hook takes a lot of the weight. It’s also attached to the wig at the back,” he explained.Arthur said the team also decided to have him wear the beard lower on his face so he could “express” emotions “and not have the makeup be a hindrance.”Given the complicated process, Arthur had two artists working on him for over two and half hours daily to get his look just right for the part.

Based on the nonfiction book “The Antisocial Network” by Ben Mezrich, “Dumb Money” is directed by Craig Gillespie, from a script penned by Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum. Gillespie previously collaborated with Stan on his 2017 film “I, Tonya” and directed him and Rogen in several episodes of this year’s Hulu limited series “Pam & Tommy.” Gillespie produces with Teddy Schwarzman and Ryder Picture Company. “Dumb Money” focuses on the January 2021 “short squeeze” movement around GameStop, where users of the Reddit page “Wall Street Bets” banded together to artificially increase the stock values of video game retail chain GameStop, which suffered from lagging stock prices for years. The situation resulted in major hedge funds as well as independent short sellers taking significant financial losses, and it caused calls for more regulation of the stock market. Filming for the project, which focuses on the Reddit users behind the short squeeze, is set to begin this September.
