Ethan Shanfeld Lionsgate Television has undergone another round of layoffs, with five people in the scripted TV group let go on Thursday, Variety has confirmed.
That represents 6% of the company’s 80-person staff. The belt-tightening comes a few months after layoffs on the unscripted side, as 5% of Lionsgate Alternative Television staffers were shown the door in November.
The layoffs come amid a constricting marketplace that has put independent studios like Lionsgate in a tough spot. Lionsgate Television’s catalog includes the “Power” franchise and the crime drama “BMF,” both of which are on Starz.
The studio also produces CBS’ popular sitcom “Ghosts,” Apple TV+’s “Acapulco” and Seth Rogen’s upcoming showbiz satire “The Studio.” After Lionsgate acquired the global studio eOne, it inherited Showtime’s “Yellowjackets” and “The Recruit,” which was just canceled after two seasons at Netflix.
