And there were more twists and turns as criminal lawyer turned convicted criminal James Lakewell returned and PC Ryan Pilkington's dangerous side reemerged with a threat to the MIT's boss Jo Davidson.
But it wouldn't be a Line of Duty episode without it being left on a major cliffhanger - so much so viewers were all pretty much doing the same thing as the credits rolled on the latest episode.
