The rapper Lil Tjay's attorney is coming to his defense and raising questions about the police search that ensnared him with a gun possession charge.The 21-year-old New York City–born musician's attorney Dawn Florio claimed to TMZ on Tuesday that New York Police Department officers had conducted an illegal search on the vehicle that he was riding in.According to Florio, Lil Tjay (real name: Tione Jayden Merritt) had merely been a passenger in the vehicle, rather than its driver.But more importantly, she claims that police never offered up a reason for searching the vehicle.

The rapper's attorney clarified that she thinks that police targeted her client based on social media posts that he and his collaborator Ice Spice had shared about filming a music video.Despite his Monday arrest, the rapper was reportedly still in jail and waiting to see a judge as of Tuesday morning.
