Efforts to reinstate a lifeline bus route in Paisley are ongoing as operators and Renfrewshire Council reaffirm their commitment to the people of Gallowhill. The Paisley Daily Express understands council chiefs are locked in discussions with McGill’s Buses in a bid to bring back the 64 bus, which served Dundonald Road, Brewster Avenue, Montgomery Road and Knowe Road, until it ceased to operate on May 1.It was one of a number of McGill’s services to be culled as part of a 13 per cent slash to routes in Renfrewshire – and replaced with a bus that skirted the housing estate. The bus firm said increased parking on the narrow streets meant its buses could no longer navigate the Paisley scheme. But the Paisley Daily Express has learned that roads chiefs at the council are looking at a number of potential measures to address the problem, including restricted parking or one-way systems on strategic streets. The news has been welcomed by disabled grandmother Linda Stenhouse who has campaigned tirelessly to save the 64 which looped the Gallowhill estate on its way in and out of Paisley town centre.Renfrewshire Live, the new free app dedicated to bringing you around the clock breaking news, is now available to download.Powered by the Paisley Daily Express, Renfrewshire Live is your go-to source for news, features and sport with live coverage provided direct to the app, seven days a week. The dedicated team of experienced journalists, responsible for the publication of the award-winning Express, will focus on breaking news, day and night, across Renfrewshire’s towns and villages. There is also a dedicated St Mirren section that will follow every kick of the ball with the Buddies.
