Noel Cunningham, the Hotel Ambassador at Harvey’s Point and Donegal Person of the Year 2020, has spoken about his decision to get sober over two decades ago.
He explained that he will ‘never take anything for granted again’ after getting sober. The hotelier said he knew he needed to get clean as he had reached ‘his rock bottom’ 25 years ago when his sister and brother-in-law were killed in a car crash.
During the funeral, he was kept thinking ‘where can I get my next drink?’. ‘You think in a lot of cases you think you’re fooling a lot of people, but in reality, you’re only fooling yourself,’ he told Ray D’Arcy on his RTÉ 1 radio show.
