Lewis Ferguson is delighted to be back up and running at Bologna but admits it will take him some time to hit top form again.The former Aberdeen and Hamilton star has recently returned from a serious knee injury suffered last April that robbed him of the chance of going to Euro 2024 with Scotland, but has seen his minutes managed by I Rossoblu boss Vincenzo Italiano in order to ease the skipper back into the fray.But after completing another 90 minutes for only the second time since his comeback in Bologna's credible goalless draw with Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday night, Ferguson, 25, believes he is on the right track to try and replicate the kind of displays that saw him crowned as the best midfielder in Serie A last season and eclipse Denis Law as the top-scoring Scot in the history of Italy's top-flight.
Speaking after the stalemate in Lisbon, he said: "We secured a good point on a difficult pitch against a team with very strong players. "In the first half we created a lot of chances, in the second half Benfica pressed a lot and we defended well and with intensity.
The level of the Champions League is high, and tonight we showed our mentality. "I’m happy to be back playing. I’m still not one hundred per cent and need some time but I’ll be back on top form soon."Ferguson has previously been linked with Serie A heavyweights AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus, with the man who handed him the captain's armband at Bologna, Thiago Motta now in charge of the latter.
