Lester Holt is stepping away from NBC Nightly News after a decade hosting the program. The 65-year-old news anchor will sign off from the desk sometime this summer for his final broadcast.

He wrote a note to staffers on Monday (February 24) announcing the news…and explaining why he’s seemingly making the change. He wrote in his note, via Variety, “After 10 years, 17 if you include my years on the weekends, the time has come for me to step away from my role as anchor of Nightly News.
