The Leonid meteor shower is set to light up the UK's night sky this weekend, meaning stargazers could be in for a spectacular show.
The best time to catch this dazzling display will be between midnight and dawn during the early hours of Saturday, when the meteor shower is set to peak.
The Leonids, known for their fast and bright meteors, are linked with Comet Tempel-Tuttle. They seem to stream from the constellation Leo the Lion, which gives them their name.
As the comet orbits the Sun, it leaves behind a small trail of debris. This debris enters Earth's atmosphere at speeds of up to 70 kilometres per second, vaporising and creating the streaks of light we know as meteors.
