Leigh Griffiths ’ fitness flop which has seen the striker left out of the pre-season trip to France. And the former Hoops midfielder reckons the current crop must pull up their team mate as Neil Lennon can only do so much.

Ultimately though Lambert, now managing Ipswich Town, says it is down to the player himself to make sure he is in shape for the massive season ahead.

Celtic confirmed Griffiths won’t be on the plane to France for the Veolia Trophy clashes with Lyon and Nice this week. Instead he will remain at Lennoxtown to work on his fitness after failing to meet targets on his return from lockdown.

Lennon is already said to have reassured the 29-year-old - who scored 11 times last season - has a future at Parkhead.But Lambert told BBC.
