Cammy Devlin is certain Lawrence Shankland will hit the goal trail soon - but insists it’s time his Hearts team mates stepped up and helped smooth the path.The Jambos skipper hit another blank in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Rangers leaving him on just one goal from 18 appearances this season.

It’s a remarkable drop in return for the 29-year-old who was voted Scotland’s player of the year back in May after netting 32 times for the Tynecastle side.But Devlin insists the frontman was “outstanding” at Ibrox and that his link-up play too often goes unnoticed.

Shankland laid a gilt-edged chance on a plate for Kenneth Vargas early in the second half only for the Costa Rican to smack the post.For the second game in succession boss Neil Critchley was left ruing missed chances after Thursday’s 2-0 Euro defeat to Bundesliga Heidenheim.

And Devlin says it’s on everyone to start chipping in as 11th placed Hearts look to climb the table after a horrendous start to the campaign.He said: “We know Shanks’ qualities and I thought at Ibrox he was outstanding.
