Six Northern hotspots have seen coronavirus cases spike in the latest update based on Public Health England data. In Monday's update of the rolling seven-day rate of new cases of Covid-19 for every local authority area in England, Halton in Cheshire, Lancashire's Pendle, Preston and Rossendale, Liverpool and Manchester have all seen sharp increases in their seven-day rates.

While Bolton continues to record the highest rate in England, with 565 new cases recorded in the seven days to September 18 - the equivalent of 196.5 per 100,000 people.

Though this is down from 213.5 in the seven days to September 11. Rossendale has the second highest rate, up sharply from 61.6 to 176.3 with 126 new cases.
