th round of the 1960 NFL draft. He played all 13 of his seasons in the league at safety for the Cardinals and was selected to 8 Pro Bowls.

He still holds the Cardinals record for career interceptions with 52 and was a first ballot selection to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1978.

He was with the Cardinals for 43 years, filling many positions including general manager and interim coach. Wilson was known for his tough play on the field and kindness off the field.

He broke both his hands during the 1965 season and had a cast placed on each hand. In a game against Pittsburgh, he had an interception, making the grab despite the casts.
