Lanarkshire songwriting great Midge Ure explains why he won't write a new Band Aid song

Legendary Lanarkshire songwriter Midge Ure has revealed he doesn't intend to write an updated version of Band Aid for the song's 40th anniversary.The charity track 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' has raised millions over the years for famine relief in poverty stricken countries.

However Midge, who grew up in Cambuslang, doesn't expect that he and co-writer Bob Geldof will pen a new version for next year - but he would be open to today's pop stars providing an updated version.

"Every generation should do an interpretation of the song.

I know some people are a bit squeamish about some of the lyrics and it is a very different world now from when it was written."Bob and I gave the song-writing royalties to the Band Aid Trust and, whenever it gets played, it generates income and will continue to do so long after we’re gone.
