Lanarkshire observatory welcomes its youngest-ever curator

Airdrie observatory has appointed the youngest curator in its 126-year history as stargazers prepare to welcome back the public for the first time in more than two years.Jack Frederick, 21, is taking up the prestigious role inside the landmark dome at the top of the town’s library – succeeding Hannah Robinson, its first female curator who is stepping down after six years in the post.

He has been a dedicated member of Airdrie Astronomical Association (AAA) for more than a decade, and is now getting set to showcase the observatory and its powerful telescopes for this month’s Doors Open Day and for its weekly open evenings throughout the winter.
