Kurt Vile is a creature of habit. Since leaving The War On Drugs nearly 15 years ago, he's stuck to his guns, releasing album after album of long, rambling songs that manage — against all logic — to stay interesting throughout.
Today, he's dropped another such track, the seven-and-a-half minute "Like Exploding Stones," along with a cinematic video. It's the lead single of his newly announced ninth solo LP, (watch my moves), out April 15 on Verve Records.
The record will be 15 tracks of what Vile has dubbed "fried" pop — combining his rock background with folk-country fundamentals. “It’s about songwriting.
It’s about lyrics. It’s about being the master of all domains in the music,” he says. “I’m always thinking about catchy music, even though it’s fried, or sizzled, out.
