Jordan Moreau Fans can take a trip to the “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” sooner than expected. Disney is moving up the release date for the new “Planet of the Apes” movie from May 24 to May 10.
It avoids a crowded Memorial Day holiday weekend that also includes the releases of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and “The Garfield Movie.” The apes will now take on the Amy Winehouse biopic, “Back to Black,” on the new date. “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” will also screen in Imax for the first two weeks of its release, marking a first for an “Apes” movie.
The new movie is set 300 years in the future and follows a new civilization of apes, monkeys, gorillas, orangutans and other primates.
The previous reboot trilogy, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” (2011), “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” (2014) and “War for the Planet of the Apes” (2017) followed Caesar (played by Andy Serkis), the leader of a group of enhanced apes who slowly take over the world.
