Kilwinning swimmer crowned double Scottish champion as North Ayrshire aces shine

Kilwinning swimming starlet Lewis Gibson is celebrating become a DOUBLE Scottish champion.The 14-year-old stole the show as swimmers from across North Ayrshire took part in the first Scottish National Age Group Championships (SNAGS) for three years at Tollcross last week.He won gold in the 200m and 400m Freestyle events and added silver and bronze in the 100m free and 200m breasttroke respectively.Lewis’ heroics capped a terrific day for North Ayrshire Amateur Swimming Club whose 16 swimmers picked up five medals in total and a raft of personal best times.Referring to the youngster’s gold-winning swims, Head Coach Stuart MacDougall said: “Lewis’ 400m and 200m races were closely fought however Lewis had better turns and the strength in the last 100m to take the lead – he wasn’t giving up, he stormed home with the gold medals.”Lewis also gained personal best times in a wide range of other events and also made the final of the 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley.Skelmorlie's Emma Binnie,13, also had a successful meet with a silver medal in the 800m Free and a number of personal best times in a variety of other events.The icing on the cake for Emma was being awarded her medal by her hero, Scottish swimming star, Hannah Miley.”North Ayrshire’s other swimmers also turned in some fabulous performances as they tested themselves against the best young talent in Scotland.Fraser Cowie, 14, of Dalry, had a fantastic meet clocking up four top 10 finishes in the 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 200 backstroke and the 100m butterfly as well as a host of personal best times.Adam Currie, from Irvine, and Heather Stuart, also from Dalry, managed eight top 20 finishes in the 100m backstroke, 50m
