Steven Gerrard

Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

Kevin Thomson hopes his time working alongside Steven Gerrard could help him boost his coaching career. Thomson worked with his former side as a youth coach before making the move to management joining Kelty Hearts as their gaffer in May 2021.

The 37-year-old lead the Fife club to promotion after winning Scottish League Two. But the boss went on to resign in May in a bid to secure a full-time job in the game.

During his time at Rangers as a coach he was able to build a relationship with then-manager Steven Gerrard. And the former Gers star is hoping his bond with the now Aston Villa manager could help him as he ploughs on in his own coaching career - with the hopes he could secure an Aston Villa loanee if he bags a new job.

The former midfielder spoke about the moment Gerrard opened up his office door to him during their time at Ibrox together when he sat down to record the Open Goal Podcast.
