Kerry Katona shocked fans when she announced on Instagram that she was 'single', hinting that she'd split from her fiancé of six years Ryan Mahoney.

However, in a shocking turn of events, the 44 year old has now confirmed it was part of a joke to cheer up her mum. Kerry implied the end of their relationship in a bizarre fan exchange on Thursday, October 31.The reveal came as the mum of five posted about visiting her ill mum Sue in hospital, who was rushed to A&E last month due to blood clots in her lungs.

When a fan asked if the doctor treating her mum was single, Kerry cheekily replied: "No, but I am!". Now it appears Kerry - in her latest Instagram post today (Saturday, November 2) - may have been joking about the split and only said she was single to cheer up her mum, Sue, who is currently ill in hospital.The star wrote the comment exchange was a "joke between me, my mum and best friend" about a doctor.

Kerry explained that her mum has "the funniest sense of humour" and they were "playing along with her" to "cheer [her] up". Kerry continued: "I've confirmed nothing!!!!!!
