Motherwell goalkeeper Liam Kelly harnessed hours of practice with a young Premier League star to finally end Jamie McGrath’s incredible penalty streak.
The St Mirren midfielder was yet to miss from 12 yards in his previous eight attempts this season until Kelly stepped up to save the Irishman’s effort on Saturday at Fir Park.
And Kelly revealed training sessions he had with former QPR teammate Eberechi Eze, now with Crystal Palace, helped him thwart the Saints set-piece specialist.Kelly said: “He scored against me in my first game against St Mirren.
He’s obviously a brilliant penalty taker and I don’t think he’s missed many.“I’m just delighted I’ve made the save and it does look like it’s played a big part in the game, just like Devante’s.
