Katy Perry suffers hilarious American Idol blunder as she falls off chair in Ariel costume

Katy Perry took a hilarious fall during the latest instalment of American Idol.The American pop star, who recently revealed how stars wee while wearing difficult outfits on the red carpet, was dressed as The Little Mermaid's Ariel during the competitive singing series' Disney Night on Sunday.

However, the stiff outfit proved problematic from the beginning as she was helped to the seat by fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan and host Ryan Seacrest.

And just as Ryan began introducing the first contestant, he was interrupted by a dramatic and loud crashing sound before the camera panned around to show Katy on the ground and her fishtail up in the air.

The studio burst into laughter as Lionel, Luke and Ryan helped her up. Ryan asked: "Are you okay? Are you alright?" to which a red-faced Katy replied: "Yes".
