Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and television judge. After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager.

Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson under her birth name in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. She moved to Los Angeles the following year to venture into secular music after Red Hill ceased operations and she subsequently began working with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin.

After adopting the stage name Katy Perry and being dropped by The Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.

Katy Perry will be going to court. The 38-year-old “Harleys in Hawaii” singer was asked to testify in a non-jury trial regarding the Montecito mansion she purchased with Orlando Bloom in 2020 for $15 million, via People.

According to court documents, the eight-bedroom and 11-bath Santa Barbara area estate was owned by 84-year-old business entrepreneur Carl Westcott, father-in-law of Real Housewives of Dallas star Kameron Westcott. Katy, Orlando and Carl are in the middle of a legal battle over the home, as he claims that he had not been in the right state of mind to sign any binding contracts and wanted to avoid the sale. Carl was diagnosed with a genetic brain disorder called Huntington’s Disease in 2015 and is now living in a facility for patients battling dementia.

The couple’s business manager Bernie Gudvi‘s attorney, Eric Rowan, previously argued his diagnosis had not impacted his mental capacity. Carl‘s attorney, Andrew Thomas, argued that having spinal surgery on his back five days before the sale made him have “delusion” and “intrusive thoughts” after needing to take painkillers hydrocodone, gabapentin, and tramadol.

According to court papers obtained by People, Carl‘s attorney also claimed trial subpoenas were sent via email to Katy in July and August. Katy‘s business manager’s lawyer suggested during the latest court session to use her deposition as testimony, adding that “she is in Alabama taping the TV series she is on” until October 19.
