Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and television judge. After singing in church during her childhood, she pursued a career in gospel music as a teenager.
Perry signed with Red Hill Records and released her debut studio album Katy Hudson under her birth name in 2001, which was commercially unsuccessful. She moved to Los Angeles the following year to venture into secular music after Red Hill ceased operations and she subsequently began working with producers Glen Ballard, Dr. Luke, and Max Martin.
After adopting the stage name Katy Perry and being dropped by The Island Def Jam Music Group and Columbia Records, she signed a recording contract with Capitol Records in April 2007.
Katy Perry made an expert recovery after having a wardrobe malfunction on American Idol! In a clip of Monday’s episode (March 28) published by People, the singer was in the midst of an impromptu performance of “Teenage Dream” with fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan when she bent over and ripped the back of her pants. Click inside to read more… “They busted,” Luke yelled as the contestants laughed, while Lionel added, “The concert is officially over!” Katy then asked if she could get some tape, with some crew members coming over to help her tape over the rip.
Watch the clip here! The “Never Really Over” performer had a similar situation happen back in 2018 on the show, when she laughed so hard that she caused her silver jumpsuit to rip.
She then stood up to show the audience, at which point Lionel leapt up to cover her backside. You can see that video down below.
