To celebrate St Patrick’s Day, Kate Middleton and Prince William attended the annual Irish Guards St Patrick's Day parade at Mons Barracks for the first time since becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales.
In keeping with tradition, Kate wore a full green ensemble to greet the guards and attend the parade, although this year she opted for a more sea-green shade rather than her usual bolder shades like emerald and forest green. The Princess of Wales wore a seafoam green coat from one of her favourite brands, Catherine Walker, which featured a high, structured collar and belted waist, with tailored darts on the shoulders and covered buttons up the front. The coat had an almost military-inspired feel to it thanks to the structured cut and exaggerated shoulders, making it the perfect choice to attend the barracks in.
Kate added a gold shamrock to the left side of her coat, although this wasn’t just any old brooch. The golden shamrock actually belongs to the regiment, who allow the brooch to be loaned out and worn by royal women who are associated with them, such as Kate following her appointment as both Princess of Wales and newly instated Colonel of the Irish Guards.
As well as the meaningful golden brooch, Kate also wore a spectacular corsage of green foliage, known as a traditional shamrock spring, pinned to the front of her coat in honour of the Irish holiday.
