Kate Middleton honours Manchester Arena bombing victims with sweet bee earrings

Kate Middleton paid a touching tribute to the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing by wearing special bee earrings.The Duchess of Cambridge and her husband Prince William were in the city today, Tuesday May 10, to officially open a memorial to the victims of the terror attack.They joined families of those who lost loved ones, others who were seriously affected, and civic dignitaries at an intimate private ceremony just days ahead of the fifth anniversary of the atrocity at an Ariana Grande concert at the Arena on May 22, 2017.The Duke, who earlier in the day appeared alongside his father at the State Opening of Parliament, spoke at a short ceremony before he and the Duchess were taken on a walk around the 'Glade of Light' site where Her Royal Highness laid flowers.

And to mark the occasion, and in a show of solidarity with the city, she donned a pair of bee and honeycomb earrings.The worker bee has been an emblem for Manchester for over 150 years and is said to represent the city's hard work ethic and the city being a hive of activity.

In the days and weeks following the attack it was adopted as a symbol of the city's strength, resilience and refusal to bend to hate and terror, being featured in many memorials.The Glade of Light is a garden memorial that has been created as a space for reflection and remembrance.

Its centrepiece is a white marble halo bearing the names of the 22 people who lost their lives.whilst their families have also been able to place personalised memory capsules, containing mementos and messages, inside the halo.
