The Princess of Wales has expressed her regret at being unable to attend a significant rehearsal for Trooping the Colour today, June 8.
In her role as Colonel of the Irish Guards, Kate Middleton would traditionally be present at the Colonel's Review, a traditional rehearsal held in preparation for the principal Trooping the Colour event set for next week.
This year, it is the Irish Guards who will troop their colour. However, due to ongoing recovery following her cancer diagnosis and treatment, Kate will not be in attendance at today's proceedings to give the salute.
Her place will be taken by Lieutenant General James Bucknall.Despite her absence, the princess took the step of penning a letter to the Irish Guards, expressing her pride in the regiment and extending her best wishes for their rehearsal, the Mirror reports.
