The recent break-in at the Windsor Castle estate proved that no matter how strong the ring of security is around the royal family, such incidents can and do happen.

Masked thieves scaled a fence during the night to steal farm vehicles, making off with a pick up truck and a quad bike from a barn at Shaw Farm, inside the grounds.

While the King and Queen were not in residence at the castle at the time, it is believed that the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children were at home at nearby Adelaide Cottage on the estate.

However, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, speaking exclusively to OK!, believes that there was no great cause for alarm for Prince William and his family. “This was a farm break-in, not an attempt to get into a royal home,” she said. “Farm break-ins are rife at the moment – and particularly in the Home Counties.
