In her new memoir The Power Of Hope, which is being serialised by The Mail on Sunday, Kate said he told her as the ambulance prepared to take him to hospital: "Kate, this is not the last time you will see me.
It isn't." By voicing this, the Good Morning presenter wrote that he never would have said that if a small part of him didn't have concerns that it would be.
She revealed that from hospital Derek told her: "I want you at the funeral, but I'm not sure about the children." Kate told him not to talk about funerals, insisting that he would make it through, but his texts grew more serious.
