Kate Garraway has shared a heartbreaking update on her husband Derek Draper, admitting she's never felt like he is "safe." Derek, 56, caught Covid-19 in 2020 and ended up in a medically induced coma.
He spent over a year in hospital with round-the-clock care before being able to return home. He now has lasting damage to his organs and has been taken back to hospital several times over the past three years.
Kate, who married Derek in 2005, has become his full-time carer as a result.This week, Kate revealed that Derek is "living in the world of the unknown" in a candid update about his health.The Good Morning Britain star also confessed that she has never felt like he is "safe." Speaking on the Emotionally Speaking podcast with host Peter Leonard, Kate said: "When he wakes up in the morning it is heartbreaking.
Because it feels as though you are watching someone who may have been inhabiting his old life in his dreams." "And then he wakes up and you see the cloud descend of the battle he has ahead." Reflecting on his overall health, she went on: "If you look back, there is some progress, he has [said] more words now and his voice is stronger." Kate shared that sometimes she can hear "a little bit of a Chorley accent" in Derek's voice, as reported by the Daily Star.
