Kate Middleton and Prince William showed a rare public display of affection when she briefly tapped him on the bum, as they joined King Charles and Queen Camilla in Scotland.
The King and Queen were presented with the Scottish crown jewels in a huge service today, which has been referred to by some royal watchers as the "second Coronation." Kate, who was a vision in a beautiful blue ensemble, raised some eyebrows during the ceremony when, despite the formality of the occasion she appeared to show off her cheeky side by tapping her husband on the behind and they whispering something in his ear.
It's rather unusual to see these displays of affection between members of the royal family, with Zara and Mike Tindall being one notable exception to the rule, but in recent years the Prince and Princess of Wales have been known to show off their love more and more.
Behavioural expert Darren Stanton, who's studied the Prince's body language for several years, has said of his PDA: "William shares a very strong connection with his wife Kate. "The two have got a very mischievous side to the relationship, and again, the fact that they are more than happy to kiss, hold hands and just have fun in public shows the kind of relationship that they have, which clearly has gone from strength to strength, and they obviously have a very deep trust and deep relationship." The couple's tight and stable bond is something that former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond feels is the key to the couple's success, especially when contrasted with the emotionally fraught home that Prince William grew up in with King Charles and the late Diana, Princess of Wales.
