Karla Sofía Gascón Absent From BAFTA Film Awards Guest List as Her ‘Emilia Pérez’ Co-Stars Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña Set to Present
variety.comAlex Ritman Karla Sofía Gascón, as many might have already presumed, is not expected to attend the BAFTA Film Awards ceremony on Sunday night.
The “Emilia Pérez” star — who last month became the first openly trans actress to be nominated for a BAFTA — has been absent from awards shows since her racist posts on social media were uncovered just two weeks ago, having skipped Critics Choice Awards, PGA Awards and the Goya Awards in her native Spain.
According to BAFTA, the highest profile event on the awards calendar to date, she’s not on its lineup of attendees either. That said, Gascón’s “Emilia Pérez” co-stars Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña will be in room at London’s Royal Festival Hall (both are also competing for best supporting actress).
Gomez and Saldaña are also set to present an award. Other guest presenters — announced Thursday by the British Academy — include Adam Scott, Anna Kendrick, Camila Cabello, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Colman Domingo, Isabella Rossellini, James McAvoy, James Norton, Jessie Eisenberg, Letitia Wright, Leo Woodall, Lupita Nyong’o, Marisa Abela, Mark Hamill, Naomi Ackie, Pamela Anderson, Ralph Fiennes, Simon Pegg, Thomasin McKenzie, Vanessa Kirby, Will Poulter and Will Sharpe.
