It was a few days before Christmas when Kara first began to feel unwell. Her parents had taken her for an eye test after she began suffering with frequent headaches.
But after an optician noticed Kara's optic nerve was swollen, she was taken immediately to hospital. A few days later, she was undergoing surgery to remove a 4cm tumour from her brain.
The following January, doctors confirmed she had cancer and the schoolgirl was diagnosed with a grade three anaplastic ependymoma tumour. READ MORE: First picture of man murdered as he sat having coffee by the canal in Manchester She had to undergo three further operations at the Christie Hospital to remove the cancer but finally, in June last year, Kara received the incredible news that she was cancer free and didn't need any more treatment or surgeries.
The now nine-year-old has been selected to take part in a charity challenge alongside her best friends - to help others battling the disease.
