Kanye West. Not the multi-platinum selling artist, Grammy award winner, clothing designer and one-time Presidential candidate, but the abusive behaviour of the man behind the façade.I’m loath to mention his successes, but I do so because I believe they are the reason as to why Kanye West is not facing the criticism and condemnation at the level he deserves.
Over the past few months, West has behaved in a plethora of disturbing ways as he seemingly refuses to accept that his relationship with Kim Kardashian is over, and that she is moving on with her life with a new partner. His actions have become increasingly concerning, but because it’s Kanye – one of the richest and powerful men on the planet and an ‘artist’ not adverse to controversy and drama – the public seem to accept his actions as entertainment, rather than the manipulative and controlling behaviour they truly are.Last week, Kanye’s six-year marriage to Kim Kardashian finally came to an end when Kim was declared legally single.
Their divorce proceedings have played out publicly, despite the fact that Kim – whose life is far from discreet – have wished for them to be a private matter.West made no bones about the fact that divorce was not what he wanted and he has since made many public declarations of his wish to be back with her.He altered lyrics in live performances of his songs, including the line ‘I need you to run right back, baby, more specifically, Kimberly’, and while some might have seen such an act as a romantic gesture – I suspected at the time that this was a red flag.
Such love-bombing could be harmless, but if he’s knowingly engaging in public displays of affection with a person who desires separation, then he’s not doing it for her – he’s doing it.
