The performer, who was known for his mix of old-time root and modern Americana had his death announced on his official Instagram page in a statement posted there.
It read: "It is with tremendous sadness that we inform you of the passing of our son, husband, father and friend Justin. "So many of you have relied on his music and lyrics over the years and we hope that his music will continue to guide you on your journeys." The post concluded: "You will be missed dearly Justin." This was accompanied by several lyrics from his 2014 record, Looking for a Place to Land.
